Burlingame Crit...

After a smoke filled training week, it was finally clear enough to race in Burlingame. Waking up at 5:00am is not very fun when your body has become used to 11:00. We arrived in Burlingame... freezing. Zack and I walked the course and decided it was a pretty cool course, but I wasn't loving the sweeper too much.

The race went smoothly except for a few sketchy parts and bars into my hips, but that has become pretty normal. With about 9 laps to go I dropped back to pick up Zacko and position him for the sprint. Now moving up for one person is hard enough, but doing that and making sure Zack stays on my wheel is even harder. It takes more time, so we started early. We have done it before to get a win for him on Memorial Day, and we can do it again. I moved him up to about 15th spot for the final lap (a little too far back, but maybe a top 5 in the finish??). We go into turn two, a guy washed out on the inside on the cobbled crosswalk. Another rider plowed into him and went over the bars. Zack and I, on the outside, made it around that mess and headed out of the corner with sighs of relief. BUT... a rider on the outside right in front of me, on the exit of the corner, locked up his rear wheel and crashed himself out. I tried going around him, got hit by his bike, bumped a guy to my outside, (which I think put him into the curb, sorry man) and went into the curb myself. When I dismounted I saw a bare parking meter getting close to me quickly. I turned my back to it very quickly and blasted it going about 25mph. I seriously thought I broke all my ribs on the collision... Just get up... get up... if you can get up your o.k., I thought to myself. I got up very quickly, got a cramp in my hamstring, and saw that Zack had made it through but was off the back because he had to come to a stop to get around me. No points. Weak. At least I survived the parking meter. All I have is scrapped up shifters, a dent in my wheel, bloody hands, and a sore back. Pretty lucky.

This weekend will be fun =] 4th of July, Leesville, and Vacaville!!!
