Improvements

The Wente RR was sort of disappointing for me, but also shows that I keep on improving everything from last year.

This time last year I was a 3...
At the Wente RR I got dropped fairly early and DNF.

Today I was at the tail end of the splits on the main climb, but managed to get back into the pack until we came in to see 1 to go. My legs weren't happy from the start, but that time up the climb they just told me to go fly a kite and left me on the hillside. I finished the lap with Trashton and some Cal Giant guy. Probably finished in the low 30s, still fairly decent and a HUGE improvement on last year... still got a ways to go though ;)

My team mate Keith did his first 1/2 race today and rocked it. I think he finished somewhere in the 20s. He was in the chase groups with me and worked a ton. Good job mate!

Battling The Elements

So normally I have class on Tuesdays and don't get to ride at all. Since I am on spring break this week I went out and did the infamous "Double" (two race rides equaling 4 hours of fast past stankyness).

PMTG called me up and changed the game plan a bit... now it was starting the first race ride then going off and doing some hills with some other fast folks and then coming back into town on the second race ride.

As I was driving to d-town I was getting tossed around, in my lil wabbit, a ton! The wind was relentless during our whole ride. On our way out to the first sprint the wind tossed a couple guys around, who were overlapping wheels in front of me, and a few of us went down. Nothing major happened to anyone, thank goodness.

After the first sprint we were checking the ominous clouds over cantelow and figured they would blow away. On the slopes of cantelow the Viper was injecting everyone with his venom and it was painfully delicious. Once we reached the top there were some harsh words thrown about and it seemed slightly childish, but the approaching rain seemed to simmer things down a bit.

We all got a bit wet, but rode super hard and outran the cloud of death with a sweet tailwind for most of the way home. We decided the second race ride would be a sketchfest and did a little longer loop on the way home to get some more miles in.

Solid ride, good company. Harsh, harsh day today but it makes us stronger in the end.

Not much to say

This sums up my saturday in Napa.

With lung issues doggin' me from San Dimas weekend I didn't have the chance to ride much in the last two weeks and I paid for it in Napa (as you can see by the picture).

The crazy P is pretty bogus to say the least, and multiple crashes happened there every race. I agree with Zacko, if they extended the course up one more block to go around the P it would have a nice right-hand sweeper for the finish and possible be a little safer. This thing does make for an epic race for a solid solo rider like the guys who have won it in the last two years, but for the field it was... SPRINT, coast, pedal a little bit, coast, go really hard, coast, brake, try not to wash out, SPRINT.

Cobbleropolis is up next...
